You are now in the second and last step Verify the improvement of the Get started checklist. You successfullly added and tested a synonym on a missing query. Now you want to further improve your search results on your website.
Add more synonyms
In the Synonyms overview of the Site Search module, you find all synonyms created for your website. Including the one you added earlier. In our example: Jump Rope.
From here, you're able to add more synonyms to the word in your product data feed. Just type a new synonym and click on Add. This way, in our example, Skipping Rope will work along with Cardio Rope, to give results for a Jump Rope.

Best practices
1️⃣ Think like your visitor
Visitors use natural, sometimes regional language. Add synonyms that reflect how real people search. For example:
- trainers = sneakers
- Winter jacket = coat
Avoid internal jargon or marketing terms.
2️⃣ Keep it one-to-one
Each synonym paid should have a clear, single meaning. Avoid linking multiple brands to one term. For example: Bike = Gazelle and Bike = Batavus. This confuses the search engine, because both brands get linked to one word.
3️⃣ Stay specific
Too broad synonyms can give wrong results. For example:
- MacBook = laptop. This is too generic and could return unrelated products.
- Laptop = MacBook. This specific query points to existing product groups.
4️⃣ Test and refine
Good synonyms are small, precise bridges between how your visitors think and how your catalog is structured. After adding a few synonyms, test your search again. Small changes can have a big impact. So keep checking your analytics to see improvements in your search results.
5️⃣ Use AI to generate synonyms for you
If you're not sure which words your visitors use, ask your AI assistant for ideas. You could ask it the following:
I have a website that sells [product category]. My target group is [brief explanation] and mostly speaks [Dutch/English]. My product data feed contains [exact phrase in data feed], and I'm looking for synonyms that my visitors might use when searching my website. For example: [word from Query without result]. Help me with a maximum of 10 synonyms.
Congratulations! 🎉
