How to add a new field?

Have you recently added a new field, but it’s not showing up in the filter field selection drop-down or the search field drop-down? It's quite likely that the field has not been found by Spotler Activate Search yet. Please check, by the following steps.

Step 1: Reading out the data feed

In order to identify new fields, Spotler Activate Search needs to read out the data feed. Although new fields will be found, they will not be automatically activated; we’ll get to that later!

You can identify the feed in Spotler Activate Search by navigating to Data > Data Feeds, and pressing the Refresh button.

Step 2: Activating the newly found field

After refreshing the data feed, Spotler Activate Search will add any newly found fields to the list of existing data fields.

You can find the list of identified data fields in Data > Data Fields > Custom Fields. In order to use a field for searching or filtering, activate Use Field for this data field. If you would like Spotler Activate Search to automatically auto correct queries for data in this field, you can also check Use for Auto Correct here.

Step 3: Refreshing the data feed

After the field has been identified and activated, the content of the field will have to be read by Spotler Activate Search.

You can refresh the feed by navigating to Data > Data Feeds, and pressing the Refresh button like in step 1.

After this there is one more step, which depends on whether you want to be able to search on the content of this field (Step 4a) or add a new filter (Step 4b).

Step 4a: Adding field to search fields

To add the field to the fields you can search in, navigate to Site Search > Advanced > Searching.
Here, select the newly added field in the drop down, and assign a relevance value to it.

Fields used for searching must be set to the “text” field type

If your desired search field is not showing in the drop-down on this page, make sure the field type is set up correctly in the data field’s individual settings on the Custom Fields page.

Step 4b: Adding field to search fields

To add the field as a filter, navigate to Site Search > Filters. Here, press the Add new Filter button to open the Filter Settings layover.

Different types of filters work best for different types of information. For example, for prices, we recommend the “Dual Slider”, whereas for brands and categories, we recommend using the “Multi Select” filter.

When you’re finished setting up your filters, you can use the triple dot icon in the filter overview to drag-and-drop the filters in the order you desire.
