The use of filters is crucial, as your searching visitors often use queries that are generic and not specific, such as shoe, dress or [Brand name]. Giving those searching visitors the opportunity to filter within search results will enable them to find what they’re looking for faster. Spotler Activate Search makes it easy to set up and customize your own filters.
In the Filters module, you can add, enable, edit and sort (by dragging) filters for your website. You will also see when a filter is used in a Filter Rule.
Adding a new filter
Click on the yellow button with '+ Add new Filter' and a window will show on the right. Once you named your filter and specified the filter type, further configuration options appear. Also select the data field you want to enable the filter for. For filter type you have the following options:
- Multiselect: allows the user to select multiple checkboxes
- Select: only allows the user to select one checkbox
- Slider: allows the user to pick a number on the scale
- Dual slider: allows the user to select a range of numbers on a scale
- Radio: requires one, and only one, option to be selected from the filter
- Mapping: this is like the multi select widget type, but you can specify your own labels
For Slider filters, you can specify the number of steps as well as the step size. You can also fill in custom labels for minimum and maximum values.
Different configuration fields
Depending on the Filter type you choose, you then see different fields to configure your filter:
Filter is collapsed by default | Shows the filter as closed by default |
Show all values by default | This hides the “More options” link below the filter, so all values are shown by default, directly visible. |
Show all filter values | This sets the number of values to unlimited. |
Maximum number of filter values | Please tell us how many values we need to show by default before the “More options” button becomes available. |
Minimum result count | Specify the number of results a filter value needs to have before a filter value option is shown. |
Value sort order |
You have the following options:
|
Selection method |
You have 2 options for the selection method:
|
Prefix before each value |
Specify the prefix you want to show before each value. If you want to e.g. show '€' in front of each filter value, you can add it as a prefix here. |
Suffix behind each value |
If you want to e.g. show ‘items' behind each filter value, you can add it as a suffix here. |
When you’re done configuring the filter, click on Save. Your new filter is automatically enabled and you can disable it with the toggle next to it. To change an existing filter, click on the pencil icon, next to the trash can icon.
Note: every filter you enable will be directly visible in the front-end of your interface when you press the Save button.
